Review #RX-2: "Classics" Style Scavenger
(TFC Toys Exgraver)
TFC Hercules part 2 of 8
Hello! Yotsuya here! Ready for Rated X's second part in his series of reviews looking at TFC Toy's take on the Constructicons? Well, let us dive in, shall we?
TFC Exgraver (seen here with Reprolabels) is a good modern representation of G1 Scavenger. This is a voyager sized figure.
Exgraver's vehicle mode is nice. It has wheels on the bottom of the treads to allow it to roll. The shovel arm has three moving joints. There were issues with the bottom joint closest to the cab, so I don’t move that one too much. Retailers were giving a “fixed” replacement which I chose to use and left the original bad part in the box. I never had any problems the few times I moved it. |
Unlike Neckbreaker, the parts storage for the giant fist tucks in neatly in the back and fills a big gap nicely. The guns also peg on to the alt mode. One down side is that one of Exgraver's fists will always show in alt mode. The cab plugs into the other fist and hides it, and parts-forms by pegging on the robot's back.
The robot mode is definitely the stronger mode here. He resembles G1 Scavenger pretty well, with the exception of the black legs which are a bit too short making the arms look really big. The Reprolabels help a lot. The head is a nice homage to the original G1 Scavenger in the cartoon. As with all the individual robot heads in this set, it has nice red light piping.
The figure is pretty well articulated. The head is on a ball joint that can turn sideways and look up. The shoulder joints can move up to the side. The upper arm has swivel. The elbow joints can bend, and there is wrist swivel. The figure also has waist swivel. The legs are connected by ball joints at the hips. The knees can bend. The feet expand and collapse from the treads and move together simultaneously, so there isn’t much foot movement that is useful for posing. On my particular figure, the right hip ball joint is extremely loose to the point where it dangles annoyingly just like my Neckbreaker figure. Of course, that’s nothing a little crazy glue can’t fix to make the ball joint tighter. |
As with all the Hercules figures, Exgraver comes with a small purple gun which combines with the other member's guns to form Hercules gun. A translucent red version of the same gun is also included which combines with the other member's red guns to form a second gun for Hercules. If you really desire parts storage bad enough, you can clip the giant fist to his back so it looks like a backpack that rises slightly above his head. In order to do so, you will need to peg the shovel piece to Exgraver’s arm, giving a very Hasbro-ish look. Not my thing, but maybe somebody likes it. Who knows ?

Well, that wraps up Rated X's second part of this review!
For a look back at the Maketoys version of this same character, you can find it as one half of this review here. If comparing with how these figures look when compared to the G1 figure, I'd have to give the Maketoys version props for the molding on his chest made to resemble the folded-up combiner post on the G1 toy's chest. I will give the TFC Toys version credit on one point, though. While it doesn't make me loose sleep at night or anything, it is a shame that the shovel arm on the Maketoys version is permanently affixed to the robot mode's arm. It would be nice if, as on the TFC version, it was removable and could optionally be stored elsewhere. But as I said, 'tis not the end of the world. Anyway, that's it for now. See you soon with the next part of Rated X's review! Review added 24 July 2014 by Rated X. (Prelude and post-script comments by Yotsuya.) Comments are welcomed!
